Fun in the desert

With the weather being so nice, I decided to take Ike out for a run around the desert. The clouds kept going in front of the sun, so the colors and shadows are a little weird looking. I only had my iPhone on me and not the big camera so I did what I could to make them look a little less odd.

The NDT tires made a really cool pattern in the soft sand. Overall, Ike continues to impress me with it’s ability to run both on and off the road with his old age and inconsistent mechanical soundness.

I think next weekend I’ll treat him to a nice oil change. I was able to get a new oil filter from Napa yesterday, and I got a case of oil just for him. He’ll get new engine oil, and I’ll top off his oil-bath air filter while I’m at it. For all I know it’s been dry for years. I also noticed today that my engine ground strap has completely tore away from the frame and will need to be replaced. That might be why my battery keeps dying, but we’ll see. I also need to check his transmission fluid, I think he is running a bit low. I noticed today especially that second gear sticks a bit both going in and coming out. In any event, it was nice to get some driving in.

Thanks Joe. It was a lot of fun. I’m hoping to go out again on this mighty fine 4-day weekend 🙂
