Ike wants out of the tub

After 60 years of Ike’s frame and tub being joined together, and then three hours, 16 bolts, and a bruised finger later, the tub is free of it’s bonds to the frame. Of those 16 bolts, all but 4 broke at some point in the process, and 3 had to be cut.

I also was shocked at how little was holding the passenger side of the tub to the frame. The forward most tub bracket was bolted fine to the frame, but the rivet that was supposed to bind the tub to the bracket had long since broke free. Then, due to the massive rust in the tool box, the bolt through the hat channel had about an inch (maybe a little more) of play and no body mounting pads, and no body mounting pads on the whole passenger side all together. Now I know where that metal slapping noise came from when I went over a bump 🙂

All together today was pretty exciting. By the time I got around to cleaning up the work area, I could lift the body more than a few inches at each of the four corners. Now it’s time to get some help lined up for tomorrow to pull the body up and away.
